Challenges

Nokia needed to review its resourcing strategy to enable it to continually attract top talent to support its transformation with the Nokia UK’s recruitment function tackling key issues such as inconsistent processes, decentralised hiring with managers responsible for sourcing their own staff leading to significant hiring costs.

hyphen was tasked with decreasing recruitment spend through Nokia’s supply chain while improving time to hire, candidate and hiring manager experience and drive forward strategic resourcing initiatives to ensure Nokia UK continued to be an employer of choice and a key global talent hub within the business.

Solution

A vendor management model was initially implemented in 2007 with hyphen responsible for all permanent and contract recruitment for Nokia’s UK offices via a supply chain, as well as candidates applying for positions via Nokia.com.

Success led to full scale service evolution over the next two years resulting in the introduction of the full, Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) solution in 2009 encompassing direct hire and internal mobility.

Results

• Circa 450 permanent UK hires per annum plus 200 contractors.

• From August 2009 to July 2010, cost savings were achieved in the region of £1.1 million and cost per hire reduced to as low as £1000 in H2 2010 from a previous level of £7,200 during 2008.

• 80%+ candidates and managers rated the process as “good to excellent”

• Several other business lines have been taken on by hyphen, including executive search recruitment and all client advertising spend due to scheme’s success

• In 2011 the talent acquisition model has been extended to Germany and Singapore following success in the UK

“We selected hyphen because of their ability to deliver all our identified Managed Service priorities, but also due to their high degree of flexibility and the adaptability of their own model to our business needs.

hyphen has performed all recruitment functions, from supplier management and candidate management through to advertising and positioning of our brand. In short they are involved in the end-to-end processes, with their professionalism and industry knowledge being key to the success of the programme.

Not only do we have an expert recruiter on site, but a partner who can assist us in developing recruitment processes to support us in achieving our strategic goals and this is why the hyphen Nokia team won best embedded team at the national 2011 Recruiter awards. ”
